Welcome to the (Concrete) Jungle

For you old folks out there...take a look at this photo (circa 1989). Notice how each lane in the freeway has a dark band running down the middle? Notice how freeways nowadays don't have that anymore? I've always wondered why that was so. My guess? Cars two decades ago used to leak oil like crazy, and spit out enough smoke & hydrocarbons to kill a horse in five minutes. I don't think it's possible nowadays to commit suicide by leaving your car running in the garage.
